Hitoshi Murayama received his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from University of Tokyo in 1991. He worked as a Research Associate at Tohoku University from April 1991, and was a postdoctoral fellow at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory from September 1993. He joined the Physics Department at UC Berkeley in July 1995, became an Associate Professor in July 1998, and Professor in July 2000. Professor Murayama was also the Director of Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (Kavli IPMU), The University of Tokyo Institutes for Advanced Study (UTIAS), from 2013 to 2018. He received Yukawa Commemoration Prize in Theoretical Physics and is a Fellow of American Physical Society. He is elected to 2013 Fellow of American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is well-known for his clear lectures for students and general audience.
 

She is a science journalist– Her work has appeared in Science, Scientific American, Discover, The New York Times, and Eos, among others.

She hold a B.S. degree in astrophysics from Yale University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in astronomy from the University of California, Los Angeles. She used data from the Keck Telescopes and the Hubble Space Telescope for her doctoral thesis on galaxy evolution and star formation.

She has previously worked with the University of California, Berkeley to develop a free smartphone application about solar physics that’s been downloaded over 300,000 times. She also used to work as a Program and Exhibit Developer at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.

Professor Margaret Wooldridge is an Arthur F. Thurnau Professor in the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She received her Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Stanford University in 1995; her M.S.M.E. in 1991 from S.U. and her B.S. M.E. degree from the University of Illinois at Champagne/Urbana in 1989. Prof. Wooldridge’s research program spans diverse areas where high-temperature chemically reacting systems are critical, including synthesis methods for advanced nanostructured materials, power and propulsion systems, and fuel chemistry. She is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), and the recipient of numerous honors including the ASME George Westinghouse Silver Medal, ASME Pi Tau Sigma Gold Medal, an NSF Career Award, the SAE Ralph R. Teetor Educator Award, and Awards from the University of Michigan, College of Engineering for Service and Education Excellence.

R. Edwin García is a Professor in Materials Engineering at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana (2016-present). He earned the Physics degree at the National University of Mexico in 1996, his Masters in Materials Science and Engineering in 2000, and his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at MIT in 2003. He held a postdoctoral researcher appointment at the National Institute of Standards and Technology from 2002 to 2003. He has 15 years of experience in the modeling and simulation of rechargeable lithium-ion battery materials. His research group focuses on the development models, theories, and guidelines that will lead to experiments and processing operations with improved properties, performance, and reliability.
